TIS football Coach Ray recently spoke to VYPE regarding this years team.
VYPE: What are the goals of the team this season?
The first part of the season is going to be used to establish this team’s unique identity. Hopefully we can develop some chemistry and hit a stride going into district play. If all goes well we would like to finish with a consecutive winning season, and possibly another playoff birth.
VYPE: What was the team’s best moment from last season?
We went into our game against Central-Burden undermanned and coming off a loss. We also had to deal with adverse weather and a lengthy lightning delay. The team was able to execute an amended game plan and win by a decent margin.
VYPE: Who is the team’s dynamic duo, and why?
Alvin Richard and Tatum Stalnaker will be a huge part of this team’s success. Richard will be a four year starter for us and possess the talent to place himself in the All-State conversation. Stalnaker’s ability to de a dual-threat is going to help our team be competitive again.
VYPE: What is the team’s favorite memory together?
Earning the right to host a playoff game, and be victorious was huge for our young men. Everyone who suited up got to touch the field and contribute to the outcome. Total group efforts always make wins more fulfilling.
VYPE: What has been the biggest impression the team has made on you (the coach), and why?
There are a few boys from inside our building who are joining for the first time. That’s a good indicator that school pride is on the rise. We’re hoping to see a few more new faces join the program when August rolls around.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of working with this team?
Last year’s team vastly surpassed expectations. We graduated nine in the class of ’23. Now we get the opportunity to attempt success with a much different group.
Ray also told VYPE “Seniors Sir-Ryan Dennis, Desmond McDonald, and Ripley Cole made great strides as first year players last season. Their return offers much needed continuity for our program. Mason Lipsey has stepped up as a leader this summer. He has always been a leader by example from his attendance and effort, and now is his time to be more of a vocal presence.Newcomers Josiah Moore and Simon Mueller bring a lot of passion for the sport. I foresee a great deal of success for them based on their sheer desire alone.”
